Master's Message
Message from the East
Hello Brothers,
My brothers, I want to thank all the incoming officers that have been working so hard these last two months for their qualifications. These brothers really stepped up and are almost ready for the great 2023 year that is ahead of them. Want to also thank the brothers that have been patient with us these last two months of not having events and us focusing on our qualifications. Just be patient brothers, we have the full year of 2023 with great events our Worshipful-Elect Frank Barbano has for us.
I would also like to thank our past masters that help us with all the events and degree work, these brothers are the backbone of our lodge, without them, Elysian lodge will not be the same. I would like to also thank you inspector Worshipful Asis for the time he dedicates to our lodge and district. I want to continue that tradition and do my best that I will continue to do what they have been doing during my year.
This month we will start our January stated meeting on the 5th, then on the 12th, we will have our Temple Board meeting. On the 19th we will practice for our installation, all brothers and prospects are able to attend the practice. On the 21st, we will have our Installation of officers, please RSVP so you can attend this meeting. On the last Thursday, we will have our Newly installed officers conduct the first degree of the year.
I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I would like to end my year by reminding all the brothers of our core values in Masonry.
- Brotherly Love. We value respect, freedom, kindness, tolerance, and our differences – religious, ethnic, cultural, social, generational, and educational – and strive for harmony in our individual lives, in our Lodges, and in the global community.
- Relief. We take responsibility for the well-being of our Brothers, our families, and the community as a whole. We provide relief through philanthropy, community involvement, and delivery of excellent care.
- Truth. We stay true to our personal code of conduct and ethics – honor, integrity, personal responsibility, and the continuous pursuit of knowledge.
Brothers,
Haik Hairapetian
Worshipful Master

This January 21st at 2 pm, we will be having our Annual Installation of Officers. Please email me if you will be able to attend. We’ll be having Grilled Filet Mignon & Scampi Shrimp, Garden Salad w/Glazed walnuts, feta cheese, and dried Cranberries. Yukon Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Grilled Asparagus, and Raspberry Chocolate Cake. Of course, we will also have an Appetizer sideboard along with Cheese and Crackers and plenty of Spirits. Please RSVP so we can order the right amount of food.
Much respect to our past masters, Wor’s, Nolie, Irving, Jun, and Bob for showing up during the Officer’s Qualifications and helping all of us during the whole process. We are so lucky to have these guys still engaged and caring about the future of Elysian 418. It has been a stressful month but these past masters made themselves available and helped us tremendously.
I am particularly proud of Wor Irving for qualifying so quickly!! Years of masonic dedication has rendered him an award-winning ritualist which enabled himself to qualify so swiftly as Senior Warden. Just to remind our brethren, Wor Irving and Wor Nolie have won masonic ritual competitions which has brought honor to our lodge.
Giuseppe worked extremely hard to qualify as our Senior Deacon. It’s a huge jump to go from Junior Deacon to Senior Deacon and has been equated along the lines of going from boy to man. Giuseppe turned the corner and did it!! Ron was just about perfect in his qualification in opening the lodge on the 1st degree and performing the 2nd section. he makes it look easy but I know how much he studied. And, Ron had to do the 2nd-degree lecture first! Impressive! Which causes me to reflect and believe that nobody is a natural. It takes work. Great ritual work is the result of hard work and dedication.
I would also like to congratulate Wor Mike Smith as being installed as the new Toparch for L.A. Sciots 59. Wor Seb Badoyan is the new Mobib, Wor Irving Rosenbloom the Armeses and Ron Perez the new Pastophori. We will have our Stated Meeting January 19th and will be initiating a new Sciot as well. Dinner will follow the meeting! Please visit the Sciots (LA59) website at www.LA59.org and see the fun we are having. Since 1905 and of course sanctioned by the Grand Lodge of California, Sciots have been known as an important booster of all masonic bodies and as philanthropists for their work with autistic children in partnership with the MIND Institute at UC Davis. Please donate directly at https://www.sciotsfoundation.org/.
At the Scottish Rite in Pasadena, we will be having our 129th Installation of Officers on January 13th at 6pm. Special guest in attendance will be Dr. Randall Brill, Grand Master of California 2023. We’ll be having Prime Rib of Beef, Salmon or Vegetarian if preferred. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Mary@PasadenaScottishRite.org and lock it in!! I am very honored to be being installed as Wise Master, Chapter Rose Croix at the Pasadena Scottish Rite.
Each Brother, please consider donating to the Pasadena RiteCare Children’s Language Center. It is the in-house charity of the Pasadena Scottish Rite which provides speech and language therapy to young children with specific language disorders: You can go direct to their website and donate: www.PasadenaSpeech.org.
One final bit of exciting news; Wor Bob Petersen has been working very hard on articles for our 2023 Elysian Trestleboards (which will be totally re-designed and updated.) I was able to preview his first one which will come out next month. It is quality content! His article is entitled, “Elysian Lodge Our History, Part 1, A New Lodge Is Born”. It is fascinating!! Thank you Wor Petersen!
On The Level,
Frank Barbano
Senior Warden
Message From The South
From the South.
Brethren,
The finish line is within reach. We are very close to triumphantly staggering over the tape at the end of our race. We have arrived battered and bruised from the many trials and woes of the past year but our heads still remain held high. We are able to overcome these obstacles thanks to the foundation laid down by our past masters. They are the backbone of this lodge and the reason it remains intact.
I would like to thank all the brothers that participated and helped throughout the year, especially the officers. I commend the brothers who have stepped up and filled roles within the new line of officers in 2023.
We accomplished many things this year. Many firsts! But, we also stumbled along the way. These are moments to learn from and reflect upon. We are human and with that comes human vices. We will disagree with opinions, orders, and even dinner choices but the point of Masonry is to strive for better. We should judge each man based on their character and not by what region they hail from. We can disagree with a Master’s way of doing things and still give them their due respect for serving. Personal feelings should not overrule merits achieved through hard work. Everyone who has served deserves to be acknowledged.
We will start anew on January first and we can improve, and be better. This is your task for 2023, nay, your charge! Strive for excellence, be better, and do better! I wish you and your families and friends all the best and a Happy New Year!
-Ronald J Perez
